ND's Fuego Review

There are a lot of staples that make up Las Vegas nightclubs – booths, dance floors, lighting systems, sound systems, the list goes on.

So, to really set a club apart, it has to have all the staples, but it has to make them, well, interesting. Otherwise, it's just another club.

Lucky for everyone, ND's Fuego (located inside the Rio, in a space once occupied by Club Rio and, for a little while, Prince), definitely created something interesting – and even a few things the town might not have seen before.

The club's layout is like a round arena. Around the edges of the top ring are the bars (six of them). There are three tiered rings of booths (covered in red alligator leather) that face the dance floor, which is right in the center of the club.

This isn't just a regular dance floor though. The floor can be dropped into the basement of Fuego, loaded up with dancers or performers and elevated back up into the club and even higher still – the platform can rise more than 10 feet above ground level.

(Don't worry, the floor will cleared before all this happens – you're not going to find yourself in the middle of your groove and suddenly in a basement.)

Elevated above the dance floor and throughout the club are speakers and lights and even a type of light projector patented to ND herself (yes, she's a real person). It utilizes thermal imaging or something in that vein – whatever it is, it looks cool.

In the way of other fancy technology, Fuego also houses a series of giant LCD screens that flicker with various images in staggering size above the walls. The word in town is that at Fuego, you're not ever going to see the same thing twice.

So, that's what the club looks like, this is what's going on inside: a lot.

Fuego's entertainment rotates, with musical artists and DJs swinging by on tour or special one-off performances. The only constant is a female performer named Deyanira.

Return visitors to Vegas might recognize Deyanira from shows in town (like the now-dark "Havana Nights") and her gig at Fuego might not look all that different – at any given time she's backed by more than 20 dancers.

Deyanira and other performers strut their stuff on Fuego's elevated stage, which is just past to the front (or side, depending on where you're standing) of the dance floor.

If you want to enjoy all this in VIP style (read: at a table with bottle service), you'll be pleased to hear that Fuego has some systems in place to make sure your night goes smoothly. Guests with table reservations check in at the club's front entrance and are then ushered right into the club, avoiding the crowd and lines also filing in. Once inside, tables are staffed with three servers each.

It's all these little things – fancy thermal projectors, a veritable entourage of staff, nightly concerts – that set Fuego apart. Sure, it's a club and it looks like a club, but probably not like one you've ever seen.
